First Kings continues the focus on David’s kingdom and follows the life of his son Solomon. Despite asking God for wisdom above all else and coordinating the construction of the temple, Solomon’s kingdom was divided after his death as a result of disobedience. The remainder of the book records the history of the divided kingdom (Israel and Judah) led by various kings through the time of the prophet Elijah.
