Second Samuel continues on to record the reign of King David after Saul’s death. The “man after God’s own heart” became the forerunner of the Messianic King who would be referred to as the “descendant of David according to the flesh.” David’s devotion to God did not come without the natural consequence of sin in his own life but despite David’s mistakes God proved to be merciful to the anointed king.
